The history of the society is the history of Czech immunology: from the informal “Prague immunological school” of the 1950s to a modern society with several hundred members.
- After 1950Specialised immunology centres are set up at universities and in the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The so-called Prague Immunological School emerges, led by Jaroslav Šterzl and Milan Hašek.
- 1968The occupation interrupts international contacts of Czech immunologists.
- 1969–1970A preparatory group and then a preparatory committee are formed. About 400 workers answer the call for membership. The first issue of the Immunological Bulletin appears in April 1970.
- 1973–1976Immunologists work as sections of other societies. The immunology section of the Czechoslovak Biological Society is founded in 1973 and has 497 members a year later. In 1976 the first congress of Czech and Slovak immunologists is held in Brno, attended by 355 scientists.
- 1986The Czechoslovak Immunological Society is established, chaired by Ján Štefanovič. It immediately joins IUIS and EFIS.
- 1993–1994The society splits into the Czech Immunological Society and the Slovak Immunological Society. Both become members of IUIS and EFIS.
- Turn of the millenniumČIS has over 450 members (over 800 in the early 1990s). It organises seminars, PIK conferences and postgraduate courses and awards prizes for publications by young immunologists.
